This is a compilation I made a few years ago. I gathered info from different rankings around the internet and from different awards. So this ranking is made on the base of Internet popularity (including freeones) and professional recognition (AVN Awards, FAME awards etc.).

31 Aug 2012: Heather Starlet

Heather Starlet was born in 1989 in Dayton, Ohio. She's today's porn star because she stunned me Outnumbered #5 where she reallt stood out, even though the other girls were incredibly famous pornstars such as Sasha Grey and Lisa Ann. Her piercing on the tongue and her girl-next-door look are here major assets.

Tori Black was born in 1988 in Seattle, WA. Her body is in many ways more a model's body than a porn star's body. Her face notably is of a certain purity. She started porn in 2009, and quickly became huge. She's notably the only porn star in history to have earned the AVN Award of the Best Performer two years in a row (2010, 2011). In two years, she has won 9 AVN Awards and several other awards. She does both  gonzo (Interracial Pickups for instance) and scenarized material (Californique, Wonder Woman, Batman XXX etc.). She can do a large variety of porn, going from lesbian to anal and group sex.

Gianna Michaels was born in 1983 in Seattle, WA. 

Most famous for her very large and natural tits, Gianna Michaels has become an extremely popular porn star over last few years. She mainly does gonzo material, notably in scenes in which the main theme is large tits (such as Big Wet Tits 4). Her outgoing attitude and her sense of humour have also contributed to her success. On my own Ranking of Stars, she went in #15 in 2009, #4 in 2010 and stayed at #4 in 2011. She's reguarly in the Top 10 on the Freeones.com ranking.

This is a map of the distribution of Canadian pornstars by their birthplace and a ranking of the Canadian cities with the highest porn star/pop ratio. It appears clearly that the French-speaking zone of Canda, Quebec, is the center of porn in Canada. British Columbia and Vancouver seem to be just behind whereas Ontario and Toronto are relegated to a secondary importance. A notable characteristic of Canadian porn is that cities close to the US border tend to grow many pornstars. Vancouver (close to Seattle) and Windsor (next to Detroit) are remarquable examples of this.



This can easily be explained by the geographix distribution of porn production in Canada:

The epicenter of professionnal pornography is clearly Montreal. Brazzers is the main canadian porn producer  and they're based in Montreal. Vanessa, a new french-speaking porn channel is also based in Montreal and produces 20% of it's material in Quebec. A more obscure production takes place in Toronto with Northern Peaks Productions. There's also an important amateur production both in Vancouver, Toronto and Quebec.

The main porn production may be in Quebec, but the two giants (top 20 of most successfull pornstars in the world without any doubt) of Canadian porn are not from the French-speaking regions of Canada:

Shyla Stylez, born in 1982 in Hamilton, BC.

Shyla Stylez is probably the most famous Canadian porn star. She started her erotic career in Vancouver before moving down the West Coast to LA and the San Fernando Valley, shooting her first hardcore video for Anabolic Pictures in 2001. She then came back to Canadian porn around 2008 when she signed a contract with Montreal-based Brazzers. She mainly does hardcore gonzo and acts mainly in scenes more than videos. Her large breasts is considered to be her main asset, even though her butt is also often stressed in movies. For instance, she starred in Big Wet Butts 7 in May 2012.

Sunny Leone, born in 1981 in Sarnia, ON.

Sunny Leone's case illustrates perfectly the attraction of the USA porn market on Canadian actresses. Sunny Leone was born just north of Windsor, in Sarnia, a border city not far from Detroit. She moved to California when she was 14 and started soft porn in 2001 by posing for Penthouse and becoming the Penthouse Pet of March 2001. She has also made the cover of Hustler, Cheri and many other erotic magazines. She mainly does soft porn or lesbian porn even though she has also done some heterosexual hard porn. She is the more exotic, softer and more classy counterpart to Shyla Stylez. Sunny Leone also represents the minorities in Canadian porn, as her parents were born in India.

Lanny Barbie, born in 1981 in Montréal, Québec

Lanny Barbie was spotted by Anabolic Pictures during their World Tour series in 2001 when they shot World Tour #24: Canada in 2001. Lanny Barbie quickly moved to LA and managed to become the Penthouse Pet of June 2003, before becoming, as the first french-speaking canadian ever an exclusive Vivid Girl in 2005. She put an end to her career in 2009 without coming back to Canada, but remains a very popular porn star on the Internet. 

In spite off a great potential and a flourishing amateur production, Canadian porn remains in the shadow of US porn. On the gonzo market, Brazzers can still attract actresses and retain some of Canada's talented girls, but when it comes to scenario-based productions or longer scenes with more budget, Canada isn't yet at a sufficient level to avoid talents moving to LA. Nevertheless, the cultural, geographical and linguistic links between Canada and the US have made it relatively easy for some canadian actresses to become huge in the world of porn. 

28 Aug 2012: Briana Banks

B. Banks was born in Munich in 1978 to a German father and an American mother. Banks's a typical blonde bombshell with large tits and very long legs. She started porn in 1999 and by 2003 she had become one the greatest pornstars in the world thanks to the most sold pornmovie that same year, starring "The Queen of Porn", Jenna Jameson: Briana Loves Jenna. She was inducted to the AVN Hall of Fame in 2009. She still averagely ranks around #100 on the Freeones ranking today.

It appears clearly that London is the epicenter of British porn, mostly attracting girls from the northern parts of country and from Wales, which are known to be the poorest regions of the country. Nevertheless, distance seems to have discouraged  future actresses from the North-Eastern region and from Scotland and Nothern Ireland. The more wealthier regions, such as South-East England and the West Midlands have a decent participation in porn but still much less than for instance Yorkshire and the Humber. The  Yorkshire-Humber region has the highest ratio, 13,4, in the country. This could be explained by the fact that this region is one the most deprived (according to Indices of deprivation) in the whole UK, and has one of the highest unemployment rates in the Kingdom.

This a list over the main birthplaces for pornstars. York and Nottingham are representing the Northern tendancy described to participate in professional porn. Brighton is well known for being a "sexy" city. 


   

As these figures show, there's currently an overrepresentation of English girls in UK porn, much to the disadvantage of Northern Irish or Scottish girls, whereas Welsh actresses are represented quite fairly.

Sophie Dee, born in 1984 in Llanelli, Wales. This Welsh ginger girl is the most famous of UK's porn stars. She won the 2011 Miss Freeones contest and was nominated for an AVN Award the same year. She regularly ranks about 30th on Freeones.

A close look of the ethnic diversity in British porn, shows that the blonde-type is dominant and still progressing. Whereas only ca. 45% of British women are blonde, 56% of the UK porn stars have blonde hair. Black actresses are also slightly overrepresented, whereas brunettes are visibly not hot in  British porn. Over the last three years, the % of brunette porn stars in UK professionnal porn has gone from 41% to 31%. (Great Britain's) Men prefer blondes.

 Jessie Volt, born 1990 in Bordeaux, France. Amazing pornstar who started off with only one scene for John B Root before leaving for the USA in 2010. In California she plays in Californique with compatriot Lou Charmelle and the 1st class American star, Tori Black. In not even two years, she's shown her talent and has become one of the most proeminent actresses in french porn today. She was nominated for the Best French Actress Award at the Dorcel Visions and for Best European Actress at Galaxy Awards the same year. Many consider her as the future of French international pornography.

This is about Ethnic representation in French porn.

Here's the difference between the percentage of one ethny within in porn and the percentage of the French population it represents. For the general population, the figures are estimations. You notice that brunettes, blonds and asian girls are more likely to be porn than other types, whereas arab and latin populations are largely underrepresented in the world of porn.

Marc Dorcel is by far the most dominant producer. Many now famous porn stars have once worked for the parisian company: Liza Del Sierra, Melissa Lauren, Anna Polina... Sexorg and Iris Casting are producing almost only amateur porn, whereas Alko Prod and Colmax are more into gonzo but also scenarized porn. The green points show main places for amateur porn in France. Clara Morgane, for instance started her career in Cap d'Agde.
