This is a map of the distribution of Canadian pornstars by their birthplace and a ranking of the Canadian cities with the highest porn star/pop ratio. It appears clearly that the French-speaking zone of Canda, Quebec, is the center of porn in Canada. British Columbia and Vancouver seem to be just behind whereas Ontario and Toronto are relegated to a secondary importance. A notable characteristic of Canadian porn is that cities close to the US border tend to grow many pornstars. Vancouver (close to Seattle) and Windsor (next to Detroit) are remarquable examples of this.



This can easily be explained by the geographix distribution of porn production in Canada:

The epicenter of professionnal pornography is clearly Montreal. Brazzers is the main canadian porn producer  and they're based in Montreal. Vanessa, a new french-speaking porn channel is also based in Montreal and produces 20% of it's material in Quebec. A more obscure production takes place in Toronto with Northern Peaks Productions. There's also an important amateur production both in Vancouver, Toronto and Quebec.

The main porn production may be in Quebec, but the two giants (top 20 of most successfull pornstars in the world without any doubt) of Canadian porn are not from the French-speaking regions of Canada:

Shyla Stylez is probably the most famous Canadian porn star. She started her erotic career in Vancouver before moving down the West Coast to LA and the San Fernando Valley, shooting her first hardcore video for Anabolic Pictures in 2001. She then came back to Canadian porn around 2008 when she signed a contract with Montreal-based Brazzers. She mainly does hardcore gonzo and acts mainly in scenes more than videos. Sunny Leone's case illustrates perfectly the attraction of the USA porn market on Canadian actresses. Sunny Leone was born just north of Windsor, in Sarnia, a border city not far from Detroit. Lanny Barbie quickly moved to LA and managed to become the Penthouse Pet of June 2003, before becoming, as the first french-speaking canadian ever an exclusive Vivid Girl in 2005. She put an end to her career in 2009 without coming back to Canada, but remains a very popular porn star on the Internet. 

In spite off a great potential and a flourishing amateur production, Canadian porn remains in the shadow of US porn. On the gonzo market, Brazzers can still attract actresses and retain some of Canada's talented girls, but when it comes to scenario-based productions or longer scenes with more budget, Canada isn't yet at a sufficient level to avoid talents moving to LA. Nevertheless, the cultural, geographical and linguistic links between Canada and the US have made it relatively easy for some canadian actresses to become huge in the world of porn.
